Aria Winterguard began in the fall of 2001 as a student organization for the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  Although it was affiliated with UNCG, membership was not limited to students of UNCG.  Aria's founders, Joseph Dix, Jeremy Dale, and Jay Poole, saw a need in the North Carolina-Triad area for an independent winterguard program. Each had students from different area high schools that had developed and wanted to continue performing.  Aria was the answer.
